JK Cement’s greenfield Mudhol plant commences operation

JK Cement in collaboration with FLSmidth has successfully put into operation yet another blended cement plant with a capacity of 2.5/3.0 million tonnes per year (tpy). The greenfield plant located at a site named Mudhol in the South Indian State of Karnataka, was commissioned in September 2009 and has achieved the rated output.

The second largest cement producing nation in the world, India increases its cement output approximately ten percent each year. JK Cement, one of the country’s largest cement producers with a total production capacity of 7.5 million tpy, has a strong presence in the north Indian cement market. At Mudhol it is the fifth production line supplied by FLSmidth to JK Cement who expects the expanded plant capacity to enhance its presence in south India. Strategically located close to large limestone reserves and providing easy access to the key markets of Maharashtra and Karnataka, the Mudhol plant is built to produce 6,500 tonnes of grey cement per day.

The core equipment supplies include

• Stacker reclaimer for limestone and coal
• Atox 52.5 raw mill
• Atox 25 coal mill
• CF silo
• 6-stage two-string ILC preheater kiln (4.75 x 74 metres) designed for firing low volatile fuels
• Duoflex burner
• 4 x 6 SF Cross-bar cooler
• two UMS 4.6 x 16 cement mills and
• process filters.

The plant is one of the most modern of its kind in India, featuring FLSmidth-supplied automation and plant instrumentation and a fully automated robot lab facility capable of sampling and sample transportation, preparation and analysis.

The project commissioning activities were well coordinated between the FLSmidth and JK teams at the site resulting in successful delivery of the plant to the customer. JK Cement is very pleased with the results. Mr. D.
